The British Museum, London
The British Museum holds in trust a collection of art and antiquities from ancient and living cultures that is one of the finest in existence, spanning two million years of human history. It features formidable  internet access.

Museo del Prado, Madrid
Madrid's famous museum features primarily European art of the past millennium (Spanish, Flemish and Dutch, German, Italian and French paintings and sculpture).  The online collection is exceptional.

The National Gallery, London
The National Gallery's permanent collection spans the period from about 1250 to 1900 and consists of Western European paintings. A marvelous selection of their permanent collection is accessible online.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
Containing more than two million works of art from all parts of the world and all ages, the Metropolitan's on line collection numbers over 6,500 objects, including the entire European and American painting collection.

The Egyptian Museum, Cairo
Established in 1835, the Egyptian Museum houses 120 thousand objects from the entire history of Egypt.  The website gives access to several hundred important pieces, but is mostly an overview of the collections and services of the museum. Check out their delightful, free "Send a Card" (by email) project.

The Denver Art Museum
The largest museum between Kansas City and the West Coast, the DAM was the first American museum to feature Native American Art, and that collection remains one of the finest in America.  Presently its on-line emphasis is on the new addition opened in October 2006.

The American Folk Art Museum, New York
Located in New York City, this museum features the works of America's self-taught artists: paintings, drawings and photographs, sculpture and three-dimensional objects, and textiles.  A small but growing part of its collection of over 4,000 pieces is on-line, and it is well worth a visit.
